January 23: Shaganappi Winter Trail Conditions Update

Skidoo and roller last night, overlooking the driving range.

Sadly the forecasted Chinook has arrived. Expect a Chinook Glaze to develop on all trails this week as the temperatures warm up and stay warm overnight. Conditions on all trails will deteriorate in the warmer temperatures.

Please!!! If you are sinking into the snow, turn around and go elsewhere. Ruts and sunken tracks are a lot of work for our volunteers to repair, and they are a danger to skiers at night. In truth, we don't have the volunteer capacity nor enough snow on the ground to groom every night this week, which would be the best-case-scenario to manage ski trail snow conditions during this horrid Chinook.

Volunteers from Prospect were out on the driving range this morning, moving snow onto the ski loop along the north and east side, thanks Prospect!!!

January 22 update:

  • Cross-country ski trail grooming: All ski trails were roller groomed Monday evening in anticipation of the Chinook.

  • Cross-country ski trail tracksetting: Shallow track setting throughout the ski trail system has been done over the past few days.
