March 25, 2026 Update: Winter recreation is over at Shaganappi; work in progress for spring golf opening.

Nature surprised us with the snowfall in Calgary today! Winter operations are finished and public use of Shaganappi for winter recreation is not recommended. The main gate to Shaganappi may be closed and locked without notice, and the winter pedestrian entrances are all closed and locked.

City golf courses are being prepared for spring opening, with a goal of as soon as possible for the usual locations that open first, if weather patterns allow. This new snow will disappear fast once the sun, wind, and warm temperatures hit.

SNO volunteers have been busy this week with spring teardown tasks with a work party scheduled for Saturday at 10am. Winter trail preparation at Shaganappi will start up again in the fall, usually in early November. SNO volunteers also have multiple tasks to work on during the summer months both behind the scenes and at Shaganappi!

Thanks to all who financially supported SNO this winter including Bow Cycle, Taylor Law, Conway Injury Law, the Parks Foundation, the City of Calgary, Tourism Calgary; and you, the general public, who donated or became a Friend of SNO.

Thanks also to all the SNO volunteers who have been helping on the ground and in the background to contribute to the goal of providing free access to winter recreation opportunities at Shaganappi. Literally hundreds of hours of volunteer work is done every year, see you in the fall!
