Multi-Use Trails (Including Winter Walking and Trail Running)
Note: DOGS are not allowed at City of Calgary golf courses.
(See the FAQ page to learn why SNO prefers no dogs at Shaganappi.)

The shared fat biking/snowshoe trail system is made possible in part by financial support from Bow Cycle!
-
Beginner/intermediate trails are on the southwestern part of the golf course, marked by green pin flags and are best accessed from the parking lot just north and west of the clubhouse.
-
Intermediate/advanced trails are on the east and northern side of the golf course and are marked by blue pin flags. For fat biking, riders recommend it is best to travel the blue pin flagged trail system counter clockwise, starting at the entrance by the southeastern corner of the main parking lot at the southern end of the driving range fence/netting.

Trail Descriptions and Names
Nordic Ski Trails
-
Alpine 2: Our most popular, core trail network for skiing that's great for beginners. Flat and fun! Named after the snowmobile that has been used for grooming from the 1990s to 2020s.
-
Toques Off/On 2 Alpine/On 2 Toques Off: Beginner-friendly connector trails for those looking for a shorter loop than Alpine 2. Hats and toques off to all of the volunteers who make the winter trails at Shaganappi Point golf course possible!
-
Blower: A flat connector trail. Named after the modified grain blower that was used as a snowblower, as featured in a 1948 Calgary Herald article.
-
Skyline: Enjoy flat, beginner-friendly ski conditions for ski lessons and everyone else, as you enjoy jaw-dropping views of the City of Calgary skyline.
-
T-bar: An intermediate, rolling trail that can be a bit of a wild ski in low snow conditions. Named after the t-bar and downhill ski area that used to exist on the slopes below Shaganappi Point golf course. Be warned in advance... There is not an actual t-bar to help you with the hills!
-
Buffalo Jump: An intermediate trail area with some hills. Not as steep as the name implies but those hills will get you huffing and puffing. Named after the historical use of the slopes north of the golf course as a buffalo jump.
Fat Bike and Snowshoe Trails
-
Yips: The "big", beginner-friendly, popular loop for everyone to enjoy that is marked by green pin flags. Named after fat bikers doing "powder yips" as well as the the resident coyote community who do the same!
-
Infinity: For fat bikers looking for an intermediate trail with swooping turns and some up-and-downs, look no further this blue flagged trail! Infinity is the Metis symbol and this trail name recognizes the Metis settlement that was present at Shaganappi Point around 1901.
-
Willowmena: Short, beginner-friendly connector that passes the enormous heritage tree named "willowmena". "Planted sometime around 1963, this stunning tree is just over 60 years old (but could pass for 40). Each one of her trunks is the size of a fully grown mature tree (City of Calgary, 2025)".
-
Okâch: A beginner-friendly option to do a shorter loop than Yips. Okâch means "there is open space; for someone to join" in Stoney
-
25 Cents: Short, beginner-friendly connector. Named after the cost of a round of golf when the Shaganappi Point Golf Course first opened in 1915.
Multi-Use Trails (Trail Running, Winter Walking, Fat Biking and Snowshoeing)
-
Ano’kki’ta(w)ahkoyi aka Half Way Point aka Shaganappi Point Connector: Indigenous name for Shaganappi Point.
Please note that due to safety reasons, fat biking, walking, and all other non-golf activity are winter-only activities at the Shaganappi Point golf course.
