November 25th Update

Updated: 6 days ago

Winter is here!

We have had several volunteers out on the golf course this past weekend getting the first major snowfall packed down for winter activities! Please note we are still waiting for Porta-Potties to be moved to the main parking lot. Also note that the resident coyotes have been seen in the area!

Ski trails: Coverage is overall good thanks to all the snow and the lack of warm temperatures. Over the last couple of days we have had multiple volunteers out grooming; all trails have been groomed and almost all trails have been track set (no tracksetting on the trail running between junctions 1-7-8, and only 1 set of tracks on the advanced/expert loop) over the last two days. Comments from groomer Steve: "Snow coverage is decent but the snow is still soft and hills seem to be a little thin with ground poking out on some hills (notably in the golf (driving) range)". Please note that the connecting trail between the main XC trails near the golf course clubhouse and the driving range/expert trail runs over a gravel parking lot, watch out for rocks!

Grooming the Advanced/expert lower loop on Sunday evening

Shared snowshoe and fat bike trails: due to the low density snow, the trails will still be soft. However, the green loop has been snowmobile packed and will hopefully be groomed on Tuesday and will likely be rideable by Wednesday. The blue fat bike loop has only been snowshoe packed and will still be soft - if your tires are sinking please turn around so as to not create frozen ruts on the trails - thank you! (snowshoe the trails instead to help compact them!)

Walking trails: The yellow pin-flagged dedicated walking trails have not been packed by volunteers yet so will be soft and snowy! Snowshoes are highly recommended!

We need your help: with warmer weather in the forecast for next week we need help building up our snow base! Stay tuned for a snow farming party in the coming week - or visit the volunteer page on our website to help us with snow farming whenever you have time!

Support SNO: We would like to thank some of our corporate sponsors such as:

Bow Cycle, Conway Injury Law, The Norseman XC ski shop, Taylor Law, the Calgary Ski Club, and the City of Calgary Parks Foundation for their continued support this winter. Thanks to them we can continue to provide free winter skiing, biking, snowshoeing, and walking trails for Calgarians!

Become a member or donate today through our website to allow us to continue providing free inner-city winter recreation!
